Blown radiators, evil county commissioners, and drunk drivers, oh my!
As you have likely heard, these last few weeks have been very eventful for the race vehicle and the team.  After a complete engine rebuild (due to a cooling problem) and a mild re-tune of the racing engine control unit (ECU), we were ready for our first event of the season – or so we thought!   The rally car was involved in a hit and run accident in which a drunk driver rear-ended the race car.  While it is almost completely fixed now, we were not anticipating an entire rebuild of the the rear end, nor the entire month of downtime when we should have been practicing! 

First event of the season canceled!

To add insult to injury – the first event of the year, an all-tarmac (asphalt) rally to be held only an hour from us, in Holtville (outside El Centro) was recently CANCELLED because of a grumpy county commissioner pulling the plug at the last minute.  Apparently he wasn’t happy to have dozens of people come to the small town and spend all kinds of money on race weekend because he feared the racing venue – a WWII airstrip abandoned for 50 years – would be somehow damaged!  This was a disaster for our team as we had already committed to bringing the entire family and some very important sponsors out to watch!  We want to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you if you were planning on attending.  rear end, nor the entire month of downtime when we should have been practicing!
